In April 2009 the commissioning of dental services was finally handed over to Primary Care Trusts. It is catchment based and the PCT has an obligation to provide dentistry in its area, based on a needs assessment.

Members of The Review Body on Doctors' and Dentists' Remuneration are appointed by government. Its role is to make recommendations on the remuneration of doctors and dentists taking any part in the National Health Service.
